About the Artist
Every model is meticulously designed by Marcus Bree. Marcus spent his childhood skating on frozen ponds, throwing snowballs and using hay bales to build dens in the English countryside. He quickly discovered that skating and snowball throwing held limited career opportunities, so he focused instead on his building skills.
After studying engineering and then three-dimensional design at college, Marcus began an international career that would take him from Japan to Hong Kong to the USA, across Australia and finally to Brisbane in Queensland, where he now runs his own design company. Creating little houses seemed like a natural extension to his love of making things, mixing textures and materials.
The Modeling Process
Marcus spends hours studying photos and construction plans of the architectural masterpieces he is modeling in order to capture and translate the spirit of the design into a miniature. Countless more hours are spent creating step-by-step instructions and drawings to ensure the models are a pleasure to build. Material selection and sourcing is another critical step to make sure the beauty and integrity of the original design is apparent in the model. The highest quality control is maintained throughout the design and manufacturing process. You will be thrilled with the final results!
From the artist
I remember as a child being surrounded by things in disrepair —a result of my fascination for making things, pulling things apart, and discovering how things work. It seemed very natural to me to pursue careers in engineering and design. My lifelong interest in culturally significant architecture began in college. Studying architects and visiting their buildings has influenced my own work. I have long admired Frank Lloyd Wright, his spatial planning, attention to detail, and drafting skills. My intention is to create architectural models that are well conceived, thoroughly researched, and accurate in their detail. While working I constantly ask myself if this is how the architect would approach the construction and would he/she be happy with the end result. I know the outcome when I start, but it’s working through the design process and resolving the models’ structure that interests me. The appropriate selection of materials and thoughtful detailing give the models a character and charm of their own.
